"It is Finished"

The trail of Jesus Christ, as to His mortal ministry, leads to Golgotha and eventually the tomb. Of course, the other part of this great trail is the great Resurrection, as is celebrated during the Easter season. Many interpretations, ideas and theories surround the Resurrection. Agreeably, many are compelling which leaves the entire ministry and the great Infinite Atonement up to personal faith. This article serves the intent to show to the world that the tomb of Jesus Christ has and continues to be vandalized.

The great and infinite Atonement of Jesus Christ is personalized by the author in this way. Because man is flawed and fallen as far as perfection is concerned and unworthy of the presence of the Father, such a recompense had to have been planned and prepared to bridge such the gap in order for us to have the opportunity to cross that bridge and enter into the arms of the Eternal Father. After the expulsion of Adam and Eve the great law and tradition of sacrifice was instituted in similitude of the unparalleled Sacrifice which was to come. The Law of Moses came as a directive to the house of Israel since they were unworthy to uphold the Higher Law. Christ the Lord Jesus fulfilled the carnal commandments and many of the ceremonial laws associated with the Law of Moses through His death and resurrection. He fulfilled many original facets of the Law of Moses even though several unlawful things were added to the Law. Thus becomes the “traditions of the elders.” The result being the great miracle: Because of the sacrifice of the One, to be reconciled to God one must now come to Him with a broken heart and a contrite spirit predicated upon their acceptance of that Sacrifice.

The suffering of Jesus Christ was massive. Often the sufferings are referred to in physical terms. True, the human toil endured was unspeakable and predatory in nature. Flesh and muscle were stripped from the body upon the stripes given. The thorns entered important blood vessels of His head rendering fatigue and pain. The vivid image of the nails entering into the palms of His hands, and most assuredly the wrists above those hands, bring chills to the spine of those trying to comprehend the strife. Then to be made a spectacle in such an undignified and painful manner as to be stretched upon the cross. To lose all human control and die. All this, and not to mention the dragging of His own cross to Golgotha or “a skull”, is quite humbling to consider when placed in connection with our own personal sins and transgressions.

We read in the Mark 14:33-34:

“And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.”

The offering of Jesus Christ as the atoning Sacrifice for all mankind and even for all the world itself was planned and prepared before the foundations of the world were even laid. It was an intricate part of the eternal plan for the immortality, eternal progression and exaltation of man. He whom the Father entreated over Lucifer, was the only one in the express image of the Father perfect enough to take on and accept such a tremendous mission and responsibility. In other words, He had to do this alone. The above scriptural passage bears this truth out with renown and personal reflection. Throughout His ministry he had the accompaniment of the Holy Spirit and the favor of the Eternal Father.

This was the main mission, purpose and vehicle of the Holy Spirit: to testify of the divinity of the Father and the Son to the hearts and minds of those ready to receive such. This mission remains in full force even today. However, when faced at that dreadful appointed time to commence the spiritual suffering and supplication to God, Jesus Christ had to do so alone as designed before the world was. The Spirit withdrew, thus “amazing” the Lord and commencing His heart to be “heavy.” Only a total withdrawal of the Spirit can cause the soul to bear “sorrow unto death.” There began the spiritual crucifixion of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There began the spiritual payment for all our trespasses that we may have the mere opportunity to enter again into the presence of the Father. There the great drops of blood dripped as a token of sin for everyone who lived, lives and will yet live upon the Earth.

But what about the tomb? Yes, though the great infinite Atonement had been made and the angels announced that He is Risen – the tomb of Jesus Christ has been vandalized. How can this be claimed? How dare such a statement be made! Assuredly, as the sun rises and sets the tomb of the Christ was and continues to be ravaged and vandalized. Yet it continues to be a sacred and most holy place. Be rest assured in the fact that the two extremes can and do exist in the same place. The resting place of the body of the One who has purchased us at His price make that location most holy. However, how has it been vandalized and scoffed?

The following comments speak not for those under the law or those who know not the saving doctrines and principles of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For they shall eventually be taught, whether in this life or in the world of spirits. They have the liberty and opportunity to accept or reject such teachings as all the rest of us have had. The following comments are for those that do know the laws. Do we not vandalize the tomb when we indulge in taking His name in vain? Do we not chisel even at the door when we entertain the mind with pornography? Do we not bathe the floor in blood when we relish in the inhibition of freedom of others? Do we not strike and shale the very stone bed of Him as we commit to bear false witness? Do we not stand upon the tomb laughing and dancing when we exercise unrighteous dominion in our own homes? Do we not take His body in as poison, when we unworthily partake of the holy Sacrament out of fear or hypocrisy? This author proclaims the undeniable resolve, “Yes!”, to all these questions. This verifies that even the very sacred tomb of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Advocate, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End and our Head – had been, and continues to be, vandalized and desecrated time and time again.

So, how can we complement the tomb? How can we better implement the tomb into our lives and make it a living witness of what He has done for us personally? He is the Rock and Foundation upon which we are to build our home. We embed the framework of personal integrity, honesty and virtue into said foundation. From there we raise the wood, dry wall, nails, windows, roofing tiles, shingles, doors and even the home furnishings of our soul. Each of these represent the works that we do, the ordinances we partake of, the influence we extend upon others, the love we share and the tolerance and understanding we magnify toward our fellow man. All these make our home a sure home even as the stone tomb of the Savior who rose and extended new freedoms and opportunities to all mankind – that of immortality, exaltation and eternal life of man.

Consider these thoughts not only at Easter seasons or even Christmas, but at all times. Every minute of every day should be a new resolve to live the principles of the gospel. He shall not be mocked and repentance is a process, a process involving a broken heart and a contrite spirit. For those of us who have the law in our lives and yet mock the law and choose hypocrisy, without proper repentance we risk the fate of suffering even as the Savior had. Without even a portion of the Spirit within us to sustain us all would be lost for the person, and we shall be “amazed” as our souls become “heavy.” Without even a portion of the Spirit which would be totally withdrawn we shall witness even “sorrow unto death.”

Become that new person as you observe the new year, Lenten season, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, even Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and all days in between! Resolve to commit to the qualifications of exaltation, and shun even the very appearance of evil at all cost. May you be blessed all your days long in your endeavors and your posterity benefit in quantities unmeasured at your righteous deeds and example in this eternal venture.
